When you hire me to prepare your taxes I will assume two things, (1) that you wish to pay as little tax as required of you, and (2) that you do not want to break the law. As such, I may ask to see your documentation for certain deductions or credits. If you are self-employed, I may ask to see your business records. If you have not kept your books up to date you may hire me to complete the bookkeeping necessary to complete your tax return. If you are not comfortable with my professional code of ethics you should not hire me to prepare you tax return.
